The Norbulingka Institute's Facilities - Community Amenities As a community, we care for one another in matters of health and education at Norbulingka Institute.
A health clinic offers basic medical services to the residents of Norbulingka. A full-time trained health worker attends to the daily needs of individuals, and a doctor makes regularly scheduled visits. As our community grows, we are planning a more comprehensive medical facility.
Children's Créche
There are many young families at Norbulingka Institute. In most cases, both parents are working, so their children are cared for during the day in our créche. Since November 1995 the number of children in the créche has increased from twenty to fifty and continues to grow. We now have nine minders, including a volunteer from Australia. Fifteen months ago, we moved into the new créche building, which was planned to meet our needs. It soon became clear that it was already no longer adequate and that the pre-school children, preparing for class one, needed to be isolated from toddlers.
We have now drawn up plans and are raising funds for an infant school, which will offer classes from Lower KG up to class two. The children are well looked after and standards of hygiene are relatively high. Our newly trained staff lead the children in playing games, singing songs, listening to stories, drawing and painting.
